Welcome to my webpage. Currently, I am a Ph.D. candidate in the civil, structural, and environmental engineering department at the University at Buffalo working under the supervision of Dr. Joe Atkinson. My dissertation is focused on how freshwater mussels modulate near-bed turbulent flow through biologically mediated processes. I approach my research through a combination of flume experiments, field studies, and models.
I am broadly interested in stream and watershed management and how hydrodynamics influence the ecological processes within stream ecosystems. Specifically, I am interested in how animals interact with flow, and how these interactions contribute to the structure, function, and organization of stream communities. Most of my work has focused on using freshwater mussels as a model organism to understand the ecological and physical processes that govern stream ecosystems. Please look over my research interests to learn more. Feel free to contact me with any questions! Brandon J.
